Light-coloured fir, clean lines, striking impact: europlac shapes the new Landshut District Officewith the finest veneer

Zülpich/Tettnang. The new Landshut District Office building in Essenbach is a structure that impressively combines modern architecture, regional identity and natural materials. The combination of timber and concrete construction lends the complex a timeless clarity whilst also sending a strong signal in favour of sustainable building. A key contribution to this was made by the company europlac, based in Tettnang, Baden-Württemberg, which supplied around 22,000 square metres of high-quality chipboard veneered with fine-grain fir.

The architects responsible, dasch zürn+partner, based in Stuttgart and Munich, deliberately opted for a surface that radiates tranquillity, naturalness and a warm atmosphere. The chosen fir, brushed with 15 per cent white pigment, displays a fine, lively grain which, in combination with the building’s light colours, creates an atmospheric, spacious ambience. It is precisely in contrast to the concrete used in the building that the real wood reveals its full effect: it creates a sense of intimacy, conveys a sense of quality and blends harmoniously into the Lower Bavarian surroundings. “We are delighted that our real wood veneer has been used in a public building of this significance for the wall cladding as well as for built-in furniture,” says Marina Röhr, Managing Director of europlac. “The combination of technical precision, natural aesthetics and sustainable material choices demonstrates what modern architecture can look like today: functional, durable and, at the same time, emotionally appealing.”

The client for the project is the municipal enterprise Lakubau in the Landshut district, which, with this new building, has not only created additional capacity but also made an architectural statement about sustainability and regional ties. “Wood in public buildings has long been more than just a trend – it is a commitment to climate protection, well-being and responsible construction,” emphasises Dirk-Uwe Klaas, Managing Director of the Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN). “The Landshut District Office exemplifies how real wood shapes spaces, appeals to people and makes architecture feel natural and vibrant.” IFN/DS

The Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN) e.V. was founded in 1996 by the German veneer industry and its partners.
